Story —
Mallory Banks, age 17, has dedicated many years to shining a light on autism awareness. Inspired by her brother Ethan and all those affected by autism spectrum disorder, Mallory has tirelessly raised more than $50,000 for Autism NJ. Mallory is an Autism Awareness Junior Ambassador, and ranks among the top kids in New Jersey who raise money for Autism Awareness Month. While Mallory’s initial bake sale fundraiser took place in 2011, the event has grown each year by leaps and bounds. In the fall of 2015, Mallory approached Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr during the town’s annual Fannywood Day celebration and pitched her idea for hosting a music festival in LaGrande Park. In April 2016, Mallory launched her brainchild, Rockin’ For Autism. This all-day festival featured musical acts, food trucks, vendors, autism workshops, raffles, an obstacle course, sports clinics, as well as the Scotch Plains Fanwood Youth Baseball Opening Day ceremony. Rockin’ for Autism was such a huge success and is now an annual celebration for our community to rock it out and feel good while making a difference for those impacted by autism spectrum disorder.
